Advised libraries

Advice to architects and library services throughout the building creation process has been developed in the following phases:

  • Advice to architects in the organization of the building and in the definition of the construction materials and the installations.

  • Advice on the elaboration of the furniture project. In many cases, the complete furniture and equipment project has been carried out.

  • Monitoring of the building construction works and the manufacture and installation of furniture and equipment.

Not in all libraries the advice has been provided from the beginning of the process. In some cases, for different reasons, participation has started in later stages.

Each of the libraries has the hallmark of the architects who designed them, but with a common denominator: they are functional buildings that respect the library program that was defined and respond to the needs of the library service that they had to offer at the time of its creation.

The Architectural Model of Public Libraries

I believe that the public library should be designed, built and equipped following a very user-focused “model”. The physical spaces must allow many activities to be carried out simultaneously, the collection must be attractive and well displayed, and the services offered must respond to the needs of the public, so that the library is used very actively.
