Objectives, Program and Methodology

Objectives

  • Define the library's needs program.

  • Analyze how the library is working and detect its dysfunctions and needs.

  • Develop proposals for improving the spaces of the library.

  • Plan the actions needed to make improvements.

  • Advise architects on projects for new works, renovations and extensions.

Program

Theoretical knowledge:

  • Graphic representation of the projects (plans, elevations, sections, etc.).

  • Stages of making a library (project, work, furniture, equipment, etc.).

  • Description and analysis of the areas of activity (uses and needs, spatial characteristics, distribution, equipment, etc.).

  • Construction materials (flooring, interior finishes, etc.) and environmental comfort (lighting, air conditioning, acoustic insulation, etc.).

  • Furniture as a tool to generate differentiated spaces and environments.

Practical cases:

  • Off-plan analysis of the spatial organization of a new library.

  • Refurbishment of an existing library (workshop).

Methodology

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the course has a high component of collective reflection. The concerns and proposals of the attendees, generally referred to the library spaces linked to their job, generate a debate that enriches the content of the course. That is why it is recommended that part of the course could be face-to-face.

Attendees can show floor plans and photos of the current state of their libraries and, based on this information, an analysis of deficiencies and dysfunctions can be made, spaces can be reorganized, an action plan can be drawn up, etc.

Different options are proposed:

  • Classroom course:

Theoretical knowledge and practical cases. Between 12 and 20 hours.

  • Semi-face-to-face course:

Online part: Theoretical knowledge. Between 10 and 15 hours.

Face-to-face part: Practical cases. Between 5 and 10 hours.

  • Online course:

Theoretical knowledge and practical cases. Between 15 and 25 hours.

In this case, the best way to jointly participate in the resolution of the practical           cases will be studied.

Both the program and the duration of the course can be adapted to each situation, incorporating any aspect that is considered of interest.

At the same time, this course is also an opportunity for those who are interested to request specific advice on any project in which they are immersed.
